The Method

Why Touch? Why the Hand?

Touch encompasses the entire body, but it always begins with the hands. Here are two obvious reasons touch and the hand are the pillars of our Touch Golf system: the hand is the only connection to the club, and in the brain, the hand’s intention organizes and directs all other body movement.

01 — The hand is the only physical connection to the club, and the feet the only connection to the ground.
02 — In the brain, the hand’s intention organizes and directs every other body movement.

The Proof, Visually

Meet Homunculus

He’s here to teach you about how the hands work in concert with the brain when it comes to the key principles of Learn Touch Golf. Penfield’s lab results put us on the path — and confirmed what we observed in the field.

Penfield was a neurosurgeon. During epilepsy operations in the 1940s and ’50s, he probed the exposed, conscious brains of his patients with a mild electrical current, point by point, asking each one what they felt. The map that came out of those sessions was startling: the area of the brain devoted to the hands was wildly out of proportion to their actual size — larger than the area devoted to the entire torso and legs combined. The brain, it turns out, cares about the hands more than almost anything else in the body.

Credibility, Condensed

50 Years Teaching the Art of Touch

Collaborating with Bob Toski and teaching internationally since 1982, Gary Battersby helps golfers master feel and precision.

“I know one cannot standardize the art of teaching the golf swing. I hope and believe this work will create a much needed paradigm shift in golf instruction.”

— Bob Toski, PGA Teacher’s Hall of Fame

“Gary has done a fine job of making the game simple, the swing effortless, and enjoyment limitless.”

— Dr. Bob Rotella, sports psychologist

“You teach in such an innovative way — one that borrows behind and beyond the technical matter with which we all get fouled up.”

— Lorne Rubenstein, golf columnist
